Beautification contract of the 40-acre garden scrapped after tardy work

A new tender has to be floated for the beautification work of the 40-acre garden adjoining the Powai lake. Nearly three years after the BMC took up the work, the Rs 40 crore project has been cancelled. Last year, when the standing committee members visited the Powai garden to inspect the progress in work, they were shocked to see huge stones strewn all around and the compound wall yet to be erected.

Russel Viper’s found near BMC excavation ground near Chandrabhan Sharma College

On Thursday, a group of college students of Chandrabhan Sharma Commerce and Science College in Powai Vihar, playfully showed some Russell's Viper snakes, which they found slithering on the ground outside their college in Powai. That is till they found out that a single bite was enough to kill an elephant.

Shikhar Gupta, 20, and his friends were 'hanging out' after college on Thursday afternoon, when they noticed three little snakes. Intrigued by the tiny snakes, Gupta and his friends playfully picked them up and put them in a bottle.

Shiv Bhaktani Builder booked for not providing facilities

Seventy one flat owners, residing in two buildings at Shiv Bhaktani Manor complex in Powai, on Sunday approached the Powai police andlodged a complaint against the builder stating that he reneged on his promise of providing them with a club house and a swimming pool.
According to the police, in 2001, the flat owners had signed an agreement with builder Laxman Bhaktani of Jaycee Homes, the firm which constructed Shiv Bhaktani Manor. They had paid Rs 25,000 each for these amenities. The flat owners claimed that the builder had promised to provide these facilities by 2003. They have also complained that the builder erected a 12-ft high wall blocking one of the exits to the main road.

Kingston society gets 2nd auction threat

The auction sword dangles again on the residents of high-profile Kingston Cooperative Housing Society in Powai.The BMC has decided to send the society, where actor Adesh Bandekar, assembly speaker Babasaheb Kupekar and hockey legend Dhanraj Pillai own government allotted flats, a notice asking it to cough up almost Rs83 lakh immediately to avoid auction proceedings.

MHADA Lottery - 5 new locations for the next lottery

 

Even before home-seekers who did not win a flat in Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority’s (MHADA) last lottery begin hunting for homes, the civic body has come up with five new locations for its next lottery.

These are at Powai, Gorai, Magathane, Mankhurd and Turbhe-Mandalay, where approximately 4,000 new flats will be put on the block in the next four months.

Powai police are on the lookout for an unidentified man who attacked the storemanager of Levi's showroom at Hiranandani in Powai on Tuesday evening. The store manager, identified as Mahadeo Kshirsagar, 26, was alone in the showroom when he was assaulted.
